Muslim Sisters of Eire
Muslim Sisters of Éire, is a grassroots non-profit all female organisation, established in July 2010, with the primary objective to provide support and a safe place for Muslim and Non-Muslim women alike. Muslim Sister of Eire is a well recognised diverse group of women from many backgrounds including, Somali, Sudanese, Nigerian, North African, South African, Malaysian, Pakistani, Indian, French, Australian, English and Irish.
During our humble beginnings, our main focus was to provide women a safe space to talk and to establish strong bounds of friendships. As all good conversations begin with a cup of coffee or tea, and so did our group. Muslim Sisters of Eire provided support, advocacy and comfort to single mothers and women suffering from abuse. We also provided a social space to meet one another and form lifelong friendships, where we would go holiday outings together and watch our children play at our mother and toddler group. As our group grew, so did its demands. Muslim Sisters of Eire then shifted its focus to include humanitarian aid, poverty relief, interfaith activities, integration and diversity.
As a result, Muslim Sisters of Eire grew momentum and through its growth, other branches of our tree began to blossom into projects that provide comfort and support for people of all walks of life, regardless of their faith, background and gender. A few years after its establishment, the wider European community became more and more curious about the lives and beliefs of Muslim women and their role in society. From this point Muslim Sisters of Eire began to organise and hold successful conferences on issues relating to diversity, integration, and women in society, Islam and the media. We also firmly believe in the importance of coexistence and establishing strong connections with our brothers and sisters of different faiths. Muslim Sisters of Eire began holding interfaith conferences and breaking of the Muslim fast (Iftars) to open doors of connection and communication within the wider Irish faith and non-faith based members of society.
Muslim Sisters of Eire strongly connect and empathise with the plights of our brothers and sisters in humanity suffering around the world and right here on our doorstep. Like most people, we, as an organisation could not sit back and watch while people were suffering right before our very eyes, whether it be at home or on our screens.
As Muslim women, our faith guides us in serving those in need of our service and compassion. We are heavily involved in projects that aim to provide relief of povertyand economic hardship, such as feeding the homeless every Friday, occasionally running a soup kitchen, and fundraising for those most in need. We firmly believe if we all do our bit the world will become a better place. The more people hear about our organisation, the more curious they become. Muslim Sisters of Eire have been constantly sought after by the Irish media and commended for their work, resulting in newspaper interviews, television and radio appearances where we have spoken about Islam in an Irish context. This has provided MSOE the platform to discuss current public opinions about Muslim and shatter the common misconception about Muslim women being oppressed and without agency, resulting in delivering a message of peace, integration, diversity and togetherness though our work.
