About The Event

February 1st, marks the annual World Hijab Day in recognition of millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab and live a life of modesty.

To mark this day, Muslim Sisters of Éire will be hosting a virtual conference on the 1st of February to celebrate the achievements of Muslim women and the steps we have taken to actively integrate.

HAZEL CHU

L:ord Mayor of Dublin

The 352nd Lord Mayor of Dublin City. She is the first Citizen of Dublin and Chair of Dublin City Council. She is the ninth female to take the position and first person of colour. She represents Dublin city internationally as well. Hazel Chu was born and raised in Dublin. In her spare time she lends her voice to promoting diversity and equality, and is a regular media contributor.

Lorraine O'Connor

Co-founder, Muslim Sisters of Eire

Lorraine is involved as an activist with community and voluntary organisations, particularly the Muslim community. She chaired the Dublin 12 Women's Action Group from 2005-2011, and currently she is the chair of Muslim Sisters of Eire.

James Carr

Lecturer, University of Limerick

lHe lectures in the Department of Sociology in the University of Limerick. In 2010, he was awarded a three-year scholarship for his doctoral studies from the Irish Research Council to engage in research into racism directed towards Muslim communities in Ireland at the University of Limerick.

Teacher and mother

Suzan has lived in Ireland since 1986. She is a science graduate, a teacher and a mother. She has been very actively involved in community projects and currently teaches at the Muslim national school in Clonskeagh
