At Muslim Sisters of Éire, we have been working at the grassroots level for just under 10 years, operating outside the GPO and serving some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Through both the data we collect and the lived realities we witness firsthand, we are deeply concerned by the alarming and consistent rise in cases of gender-based violence.
Each week, we see more women coming to us as victims of abuse. Particularly within the homeless and addiction-affected sectors, many women are fragile and unprotected. The level of violence some endure is truly heartbreaking. We have encountered women who have been severely beaten, underscoring the urgent need for action and advocacy.
This is an issue we can no longer remain silent about. We will be documenting these experiences in greater detail and advocating strongly for the voices of the voiceless—especially women who are too often overlooked in existing support systems.
