Muslim Sisters of Éire: Serving Dublin's Most Vulnerable

We are deeply grateful for the recent Irish Times article and RTE News highlighting our work at the GPO on O'Connell Street.

The Irish Time article and RTE video which captured the essence of our Friday evening soup kitchen, where we served 470 meals to those in need. As has been the case for many years, we had long queues formed by 6:30 PM and a diverse range of people in need, from families with children to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The article highlighted our commitment to providing not just nourishment but also a sense of community. Our founder, Lorraine O'Connor, emphasised the increasing demand for our services since the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbated by job losses, the Ukraine war, and rising living costs.

The piece also touched on the ongoing discussions about regulating on-street charitable services while noting our dedication to maintaining high standards, with our volunteers being Garda-vetted and trained in child safety and food safety.

We were honoured by the unexpected visit from Lord Mayor of Dublin Emma Blain, who described our operation as "the gold standard."

This recognition reinforces our commitment to serving Dublin's most vulnerable with dignity and compassion.

As Lorraine aptly stated in the article, "What is degrading is what's happening to people. The Government need to look at the real problems."

We at Muslim Sisters of Éire will continue our mission, providing essential support to those who need it most in our community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Irish Times and the RTE for shedding light on this crucial issue and to all our supporters who enable us to make a difference in the lives of hundreds every week.

You can read the article in the Irish Times or download it here in a pdf format.

We hope this video inspires you to learn more, get involved, or support our efforts in making a difference one meal at a time. Thank you for watching, and thank you for being part of the journey to spread hope and kindness.
